Picasso’s painting “The Women of Algiers (Version O)” was sold at Christie’s auction for $179.4 Million.
At the beginning, the price of the artwork was $140 Million but later it was raised to $160 Million. The final price was $179.365 Million. This way, the painting has become the most expensive work of art ever sold at an auction.
The work was sold within the Christie’s auction “Looking Forward to the Past”. On the painting, inspired by Eugène Delacroix, are depicted a group of courtesans. As we know, Picasso painted 15 versions of the homage. According to Christie’s representative, Brett Gorvy, the final “Version “O”” is the best painting of the series.
